Enable React Native to build apps for Windows Phone
Windows Phone marketshare + React <-> XAML is too much hard work for you guys imo.
This should possibly just be 'React Native for Windows Universal Apps', which is a much larger marketshare compared to Phone on it's own (Desktop, tablets, phones, Xbox, and augmented reality)
Windows 10 can run both APKs and obviously there is WinObjC. From a dev in the #code-push channel it sounds like React Native is very important to Microsoft and they could potentially already be working on this!
Few thoughts on this one:
- APK looks like it's on hold for Windows 10. Either way, that would be phone only as Android is not supported on regular Windows/Xbox etc...
- It may be better to write a bridge through to native C++ XAML objects. This could be done generically using reflection on the XAML DOM objects.
- Maybe Facebook could use MetaOS, as it appears their new Windows 10 Facebook app uses this?
This would be awesome!
Support for UWP would be awesome. There's already well over 200 million devices in the wild running it, with store support coming to Xbox One and other device types.
I support this for the Universal Windows Platform.
So with the announcement (and release) of React Native for UWP at F8, has this product pain been addressed?
Are we waiting till the fork is merged back before considering this done? https://blogs.windows.com/buildingapps/2016/04/13/react-native-on-the-universal-windows-platform/
This one is indeed done thank to the awesome engineers at Microsoft:
We forgot to close it. Closing now :)
